Food Prices Continue to Rise on October 21, with Shallots Reaching Rp29,640 per Kg
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - As of Monday morning, (10/21/2024), Indonesia saw a rise in the prices of several key food commodities, including a notable increase in the price of shallots.
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) recorded that shallot prices have climbed by 1.65% or Rp480, bringing the price to Rp29,640 per kilogram, a significant jump in the market.
Premium rice also experienced an increase of 0.19%, rising by Rp30 to Rp15,500 per kilogram. This upward trend extended to medium rice, which saw a 0.52% hike, making the new price Rp13,600 per kilogram.
Bulog's stabilized rice supply and price (SPHP) products also recorded a slight rise of 0.08%, increasing by Rp10 to Rp12,570 per kilogram. "This gradual price rise in essential commodities is affecting both consumers and traders alike," according to the official Bapanas report.
Several other key items also recorded price increases, including garlic bulbs and curly red chilies. Garlic prices rose by 1.08%, reaching Rp40,410 per kilogram, while curly red chilies increased by 1.04%, now priced at Rp31,160 per kilogram.
However, not all food items saw price hikes. For instance, red bird's eye chilies actually dropped by 1.43%, decreasing by Rp640 to Rp44,050 per kilogram.
Meat and poultry prices have also climbed. Fresh beef increased by 0.20%, now costing Rp135,030 per kilogram, while broiler chicken prices went up by 0.53%, priced at Rp36,110 per kilogram.
Eggs also followed the trend, with chicken eggs rising by 1.65% to Rp28,490 per kilogram. Imported soybeans experienced a slight increase as well, now priced at Rp10,730 per kilogram after a 0.19% rise.
Other food items such as refined sugar and cooking oil also showed an upward trend. Refined sugar saw a 0.39% increase, with the new price set at Rp178,030 per kilogram.
Packaged cooking oil experienced a price increase of 0.99%, now costing Rp18,410 per kilogram. However, bulk cooking oil prices dropped by 0.85%, now at Rp16,410 per kilogram, offering some relief to consumers.
In addition, corn prices saw the steepest rise among agricultural commodities, jumping by 3.51%, bringing the price to Rp6,200 per kilogram. This rise in corn prices directly impacts livestock farmers who rely on corn for animal feed.
Fish prices also followed this pattern, with mackerel prices rising by 1.74% to Rp37,960 per kilogram, while tuna rose by 0.16%, reaching Rp31,540 per kilogram. Meanwhile, milkfish prices decreased by 1.35%, now priced at Rp32,810 per kilogram.
