President Prabowo Highlights Indonesia's Renewable Energy Commitment
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized Indonesia's commitment to support global efforts in tackling climate change and transitioning to renewable energy.
This was conveyed by the Head of State after a bilateral meeting with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday (17/11) local time.
“The UN Secretary General highly appreciates Indonesia's stance on various issues, especially on climate change. Indonesia strongly supports efforts to take steps to reduce carbon emissions and Indonesia does intend and we have a plan and we have the ability to really go towards renewable energy renewable energy,” President Prabowo said in his statement.
President Prabowo also explained that Indonesia has great potential in developing green energy, including geothermal, hydro, solar power, and bioenergy.
President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the UN Secretary General's support for the steps that Indonesia has taken.
“Indonesia is seen as quite important now and he hopes that Indonesia will continue to take a proactive and supportive stance,” the President said.
The meeting emphasized Indonesia's position as a strategic partner on the international stage, particularly on climate change and other global policy issues.
President Prabowo also emphasized his commitment to bring Indonesia towards a sustainable green energy transition as part of contributing to global development.
“We will hope for net zero emission. We are heading that way,” President Prabowo said.
