President Joko Widodo Inaugurates Electric Vehicle Hub and Battery Plant in Karawang
SEAToday.com, Karawang - President Joko Widodo inaugurated a battery cell plant, owned by a consortium of LG Energy Solution (LG) and Hyundai Motor Group, in Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday (7/3). The plant is the first and largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
President Jokowi said this as an important milestone in Indonesia's quest to become a major player in the global electric vehicle industry. He also praised Hyundai Chairman Chung's vision and leadership in launching this major project amidst global challenges.
The government is very appreciative of the 160 trillion rupiah investment. This project is expected to create a value-added integration of natural resources such as nickel, bauxite, and copper, which will enhance Indonesia's competitiveness.
