SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia hit the lowest annual inflation in its history at 1.57 percent in December 2024, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on Thursday (2/1).

“The annual inflation rate of 1.57 percent in December 2024 is the lowest ever recorded by the BPS,” BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini said in a press conference.

She mentioned that the agency has been calculating inflation since 1958, initially only for Jakarta and now covering all 38 provinces in the archipelago nation.

The inflation was mainly driven by a 7.02 percent increase in the personal care and services category, a 2.48 percent increase in the food and beverage supply category, and a 1.94 percent increase in the education category.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto said inflation remains under control despite pressures from global commodity prices and domestic factors.
