Bank Indonesia Launches QRIS Tap for Faster NFC Payments

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) has officially launched the QRIS Tap payment service, which uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to allow users to make payments simply by tapping their phones on a scanner.
The service is now available for retail purchases, as well as payments for KRL and MRT rides.
BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that the initiative aims to enhance digital payment convenience.
“This is a strong collaboration between Bank Indonesia, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Ministry of Transportation, the Payment System Association, Bank DKI, and the transportation sector,” Perry said, as quoted on Antara, at Jakarta’s Bundaran HI MRT Station on Friday.
QRIS Tap enables transactions in just 0.3 seconds without the need to manually scan a QR code.
Initially, the service is available on MRT routes from Bundaran HI to Lebak Bulus, 120 Damri buses in Greater Jakarta, and regional public transport such as Trans Metro Pasundan in Bandung and Trans Sarbagita in Bali. The first phase also includes 2,353 merchants across retail, MSMEs, parking facilities, and hospitals.
BI plans to expand QRIS Tap to all MRT stations, TransJakarta, LRT, KRL routes in Greater Jakarta and Yogyakarta-Solo, as well as more merchants nationwide.
