Bank Indonesia Sees QRIS Transactions Surge by 217.33%

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) has reported an impressive surge in Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions, growing by 217.33 percent year-on-year (yoy). QRIS now has 52.55 million users, with 33.77 million merchants joining the platform. BI Governor Perry Warjiyo shared this update during a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday (18/9/2024).
The overall growth of digital economic and financial transactions remained strong in August 2024, thanks to a secure and efficient payment system. “QRIS transactions are rising rapidly, showing how much people are trusting digital payments,” Perry Warjiyo said during the conference, as cited by AntaraNews..
In addition to QRIS, Bank Indonesia Real Time Gross Settlement (BI-RTGS) transactions also grew by 11.73 percent (yoy), hitting Rp14,731 trillion. Retail transactions via BI-FAST saw an increase of 59.12 percent, reaching 312.67 million.
Digital banking and electronic money transactions are also on the rise. Digital banking recorded 1,871.19 million transactions, a growth of 31.11 percent (yoy), while electronic money transactions grew by 21.53 percent, reaching 1,246.58 million.
Bank Indonesia reassured the public that the payment system remains stable and reliable. "We’re committed to maintaining a robust payment infrastructure that supports these growing demands,” Warjiyo stated, underlining the need for continuous advancements in this area.
