Indonesia and Pakistan Mark 75 Years of Relations with Growing Trade Cooperation

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Trade Budi Santoso expressed optimism that the strong relationship between Indonesia and Pakistan will continue to thrive, bringing mutual prosperity to both nations.
“I am confident that the strong relationship between Indonesia and Pakistan will keep growing, bringing mutual benefits and shared prosperity,” Budi said, as quoted on Antara, at the celebration of Pakistan’s 85th National Day and the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Pakistan bilateral relations in Jakarta on Monday evening.
Budi highlighted the significance of 2024 as a milestone year, marking 75 years of diplomatic ties based on mutual respect and constructive partnership at both regional and global levels.
In his remarks, he also emphasized Astacita—Indonesia’s national development framework envisioned by President Prabowo Subianto—which aligns with Indonesia’s partnership with Pakistan in promoting national resilience, global competitiveness, and stronger international cooperation.
Pakistan has emerged as one of Indonesia’s key trading partners in South Asia, with bilateral trade growing at an average of 7.92 percent over the past five years. The trade includes palm oil, textiles, machinery, pharmaceuticals, and halal food products.
The 2012 Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) has more than doubled trade value—from $1.6 billion to $4 billion by 2024. Both countries are now negotiating to upgrade it to a Trade in Goods Agreement (TIGA).
“Indonesia and Pakistan also stand as brothers in promoting prosperity across the Islamic world,” Budi said, as quoted on Antara, adding that their ongoing cooperation will continue to contribute to regional and global stability.
