A Philippine Legislator Wants an Investigation Into Taylor Swift's Exclusive Performance Contract in Singapore
SEAToday.com, Manila-A Filipino legislator, Joey Salceda has criticized Singapore for having an exclusive agreement with American music artist Taylor Swift which allowed the Republic to be her only stop in Southeast Asia during her Eras Tour.
On February 28, Salceda requested in writing that the Department of Foreign Affairs or D-F-A of the Philippines officially object to the grant that the Singaporean government had approved in exchange for Swift’s promise not to perform on her global tour anywhere in Southeast Asia.
Salceda stated in a media release that the city-state’s action was bad for its diplomatic ties with Manila and mentioned it as something that a good neighbor would not do.
On February 16, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said that concert producer Anschutz Entertainment Group had informed him the Singapore government reportedly offered subsidies of up to $3 million us dollars for each show.
The subsidies offered by Singapore are only available if Swift does not perform in other countries in Southeast Asia. Some Swifties, as the singer-songwriter’s fans are known, became irated. (NADHIRA/ALVIN)
